How To Make An Edible Apple Swan
How to make a decorative, and completely edible, apple swan! Cut your apple in a slight diagonal into half, making sure you expose the core of the fruit while doing so. – Save a couple of the seeds for later use.
Take the side which has the bottom attached and place face down on a cutting board. Place 2 butter knives parallel to each other but perpendicular to the apple.
Use a cutting knife on the right side of your apple’s bottom, until you hit the butter knives. Use the latter as guide on the side, to cut out a wedge off the fruit. Use the same method for the other side.
Cut 3 more wedges about 1/4 inch thick. This time, instead of cutting on the side to your fingers, turn the piece of apple on its side. If you repeat the process 2 more times and stick the pieces back together you can create the effect of a beautiful layered wing. Use the same technique for the other wing.
Now, for the head of the swan, carefully cut into the front of the body, to create a gap.
Take the other half of the apple from the beginning of the project. Use the butter knives as measure of thickness for cutting slices. Look for a resulting piece that is similar to a heart-shape. To make the head you need to place 3 strategic cuts in this piece. A triangle shape in the right upper side and one slightly diagonal cut at the bottom. Place the apple seeds where you think the eyes should go. Then simply slide the head into the gap created earlier.
Try to spray with some lemon juice so it won’t turn brown very soon. Make a few of these swans from various types of apple. It will look wonderful… Ok.. but also you can watch a video tutorial in the link below.
