Granny’s Baked Ham

Ingredients:

1 fully cooked smoked boned ham, 8 lbs
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
1/2 tsp ground mustard or 1 ½ tsp prepared mustard
Orange slices, if desired

Directions

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Place ham, fat side up in shallow roasting pan on rack in preheated oven. Insert ovenproof meat thermometer so tip is in thickest part of ham and does not touch bone or rest in fat. Cover loosely; bake 1 hour 30 minutes.

Remove ham from oven. Pour drippings from pan. Remove any skin from ham. In small bowl, mix brown sugar, apple cider vinegar and mustard; brush mixture on ham.

Bake uncovered 20 to 30 minutes more or until thermometer reads 135 degrees F.

Remove from oven; cover loosely; let stand 10 minutes or until thermometer reads 140 degrees F. Garnish with orange slices, if desired.

While the ham stands for 10 minutes, the temperature will continue to rise about 5 degrees.

The ham will be easier to carve as the juices set up.

Serve with honey mustard, horseradish sauce, apple sauce or fruit chutney, or not, it is delicious by itself.
