Braided Pizza Calzone

Braided Pizza Calzone

Ingredients:

Make one batch of Mama’s Best Pizza Dough.  Let it rest about 10 minutes to let it relax. While dough is resting make the Garlic Butter Glaze.

Garlic Butter Glaze:

6 TBS. salted butter
1/2 tsp. garlic salt
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. dill weed
1/4 tsp. Italian seasoning

Directions:

Before you begin,  Lay out parchment paper they length of your jelly roll pan, or pizza stone (whatever you are baking on). DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP! Dust the parchment with flour.

Cut the batch of dough in half and roll out the first ball of dough in a lengthy oval. You are not rolling a circle like a regular pizza. When the dough is about 1/4 in. thick, take your pizza cutter and slice little strips toward the  middle as shown bellow.

Next, fill the middle section with a layer of sauce, cheese, and your favorite toppings. This is anything you would put on your favorite pizza.

To “braid” the dough you just start with the top, left strip and pull it over across the the toppings and press it down to the dough on the base of the right side strips. Then take the top right and pull it to the left.

Continue criss-crossing the strips till you get to the bottom of the calzone.

*Repeat steps with the other ball of dough to make the second calzone.*

Take both sides of the parchment paper and transfer the calzones to you baking sheet.

Bake at 400  for 14 – 18 minutes or until top crust is golden brown. Remove from oven and immediately brush with Garlic Butter Glaze.

To serve, slice in 1 – 2 in. slices.
